Evonne and John Somski new Four Hills home, built by Jeff Speck of Jade Enterprises, has smooth, contemporary lines and expanses of gallery walls to display the Somski's art collection. Evonne explains her home's decor. "It's eclectic," she says. "I've got southwestern art - I'm from Pennsylvania -which I've collected for a few years, so much of the Indian art I had before I moved here. The furniture is contemporary and I also have refinished antiques." The soaring 20-foot ceiling of the dining room adds drama to the elegantly decorated home. Touches of red abound everywhere. On the burled ash dining room table, red carnations and candles combine with red napkins to accent the fine china, crystal and silver set for holiday dining. Against a stepped adobe wall, accented with luminarias, a longbearded Santa keeps company with a tall cactus. On another burled ash credenza, a white reindeer snuggles down in a basket of red straw. In the cozy den, white bows and angels, and red Santas join with carolers to decorate the traditional Christmas tree. Red chile ristra lights surround the kiva fireplace and a red bedecked reindeer shares the mantel with Indian pottery and an antique Santa. On the hearth an old Santa doll lolls comfortably. In front
of a sofa an elegant white Indian sculpture graces a low, glass topped
table and the soft glow of candlelight emanates from white candleholders
sprinkled with red. The red cover of a Native American book completes
the Christmas scene. Article courtesy of Su Casa. Author: Jo Ann Hamlin. |
